Dear Cousins:
The year 2000 marks the 150th anniversary of the arrival of Theodore and Elizabeth (Hoelscher) Buxkemper in Texas. The Hoelschers–Anton, Mary Katherine and their sons, Anton Jr., Joe, William and Ben–had come to Texas from Germany four years earlier. When the Buxkemper family arrived in Texas, they were re-united with the Hoelscher family. To my way of thinking, that was actually the first reunion of the Hoelscher-Buxkemper in Texas! Thus, this year, we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the first Hoelscher-Buxkemper Family Reunion in Texas!
You and your family are invited to come and celebrate and make this the “Biggest Family Reunion in Texas”–the 24th Biennial Reunion of the Hoelscher-Buxkemper Family in our times–on Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11, 2000 in San Antonio, Texas.
All activities will be in the Villita Assembly Hall, corner of Villita and South Presa Streets in downtown San Antonio’s historic La Villita and just steps from the famed San Antonio River and a few blocks from The Alamo. Paid parking is available in a lot catty-corner from the Hall or in a garage around the corner.
Enclosed is the schedule of activities and your registration form. We stress the importance of pre-registration and pre-payment so we can have enough food, tables, and chairs, and so we can have everything ready for you when you arrive. Please send your registration and payment before May 31. Last minute decisions may be reported by telephone or e-mail.
Also enclosed is a map and list of hotels where we have blocked rooms with special rates for the Reunion guests. Deadline to make hotel reservations at these rates is May 10. Be sure to read the top of that page carefully.
In addition to the dance, Mass, meeting, and visiting, the 2000 Reunion will feature:
Family Picture: all 1,000+ of us will pose for a panoramic family picture taken by the world-famous Goldbeck Co., of San Antonio–and you may order your personal copy.
Display Room: open except during the dance, Mass, and photo session. Bring your old family photos and other mementoes for display in this secure room.
Book Interest Group Meeting: for those interested in working on a new family book.
Souvenirs: we will have a new-design T-shirt plus mugs, hats, and other items.
Drawing: special items from the local area.
Is there anyone in your family who did not receive this invitation? If so, you may make a copy of yours or request another copy from Theresa Gold, 106 Ranchland, San Antonio, TX 78213. Or you may include their registration with yours–but make clear to us who’s who.
Any questions? You may contact Theresa Gold (210) 344-7229, or Hubert Lange (210) 684-3950 or hwl7@juno.com.
Relatively yours,
(sgnd) Theresa
